Yes I use a HOTAS controller. You are probably correct, however, even touch shapes your hands, limiting finger manipulation. Something like a glove or Kinect would provide a more granular approach for certain scenarios. I'm pretty sure that we will see a huge number of different devices to affect 3D worlds, touch being one of them.
