I'm interested in what makes these glitches "creepy"--is it possible to develop some criteria that all of these glitches satisfy? I'm reminded of the photograph distortions (e.g. https://thatwasabitmental.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/ringu1.jpg https://thatwasabitmental.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/ringu1...) shown in the 1998 horror movie Ringu (which coincidentally has much of its plot dedicated to a VHS tape). How does such a simple blurring effect manage to do so much?
