I very much agree because in the end the only validation seems to be "does it contain a @ character somewhere in the middle". For example: example@localhost is valid but is refused by most validators.

Localhost is obviously not a fully qualified domain name which would be expected in any internet setting.

  Top level domains do resolve though, email@bs is completely legal to try to send email to.
