>I think the biggest problem for black people in America isn't white privilege, but rather the victimhood mentality that many have, which has largely been propagated by the Democrat party and other organizations for the sole purpose of gaining wealth and power.
You are so ignorant of your privilege.
- kbenson 11y agoWhich doesn't speak one way or another as to whether his assertion has some truth to it or not. he could be Donald Trump and it would make no difference as to whether his statement held some truth. The failure of people to separate the usefulness of the arguments on this topic from the people making the arguments is one of the biggest problems around this, IMHO.
- Aloha 11y agoThis while a great opinion - is a comment of no substance. Statements like this without substance to back it up or explain it, have no value.
- omegaworks 11y agoThere's very little substance in the original post as well. Anecdote after anecdote. I'm far too incensed by the latest example of legalized institutional destruction of black bodies[0] for me to take the time to carefully address his post point by point. The evidence that he is living in a fantasy is plain as day. 0. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/29/us/tamir-rice-police-shootiing-cleveland.html?_r=0 http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/29/us/tamir-rice-police-shoot...
- innocentoldguy 11y agoOh, by all means, point out the fantasy omegaworks. You complain about anecdote after anecdote, but all you've offered is puerile and pithy epithets. How does that help? Personally, I prefer to look at the situation by observing both myself, when set in a discriminatory position for years on end, as well as my immediate and extended family members, many of whom are Black, Hispanic, Indian, and Asian, and living in America; the supposed land of white privilege and black oppression. I for one am sick of political correctness because I believe it is a lie. It denies the past and silences the future. It harms my wife, my children, my cousins, and other extended family members. It attempts to teach my kids that it is OK to sit on their ass, to be thugs, to rob, to steal, to break the law and cause mayhem because the white's owe them something, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let it. So, by all means, sit behind your screen politicking and feeling good about your ignorant judgements and ad hominem insults. For me, I'm going to be bold and talk about a problem I see that affects me personally. Is there a problem? Yes. Is it going to be fixed by pretending it is only one sided, or by denying my right to address it based solely on the color of my skin? Absolutely not. I want something better for everyone in this country, and it isn't going to happen if we pussyfoot around the issue and pretend half of it doesn't exist.
- 13thLetter 11y agoI've never seen any use of the word "privilege" that didn't map directly to "shut up," and sadly this comment is no different. If you disagree with the parent comment, make an argument, don't just throw out a buzzword that's only meaningful to a tiny political fringe and think that's going to convince anyone of anything.
- omegaworks 11y agoParent post used privilege without truly understanding or defining it. I'm merely stating an opinion. If you'd like to talk silencing, which is a false and misleading interpretation of my comment, let's talk down votes. The down votes on my post are actual attempts to silence my opinion, and you don't seem as vociferously defensive.
