The legislation that allowed someone to get their own connection to the internet (essentially to become an ISP) without having a government sponsor didn't exist until 1995.
- pmontra 11y agoBut commercial ISPs with full access to the Internet existed in the USA since 1992. The first one was The World. Details at http://www.indra.com/homepages/spike/isp.html http://www.indra.com/homepages/spike/isp.html
- fit2rule 11y agoYeah, there was no such legislation - or if there was, it wasn't being followed by those who had Internet access in the early 90's.
- icedchai 11y agoUntrue. You could get commercial internet connections from UUNet and others much earlier (1992?)
