When I heard that, I knew Silicon Valley had nothing left for me, and I've never looked back.
- kzhahou 11y agoWhere'd you go?
- rm_-rf_slash 11y agoIt was after a Hackathon that flew me and a few college buddies out to sf for the weekend. We were talking with some locals at Dolores when I heard that. EDIT: If you mean where I left for, then I went back home, Ithaca NY. Aside from it being much smaller and having the shittiest weather in the United States, it's an excellent place to live. Short commute, super friendly people, good local organic food, and it's not constantly in a drought. In fact, it is the safest place in the US from the effects of climate change and it's insulated from pretty much every natural disaster imaginable. It also has a minuscule cost of living compared to coastal cities and there's much, much more space than you'll ever get in a big city. Just be prepared for cloud coverage so thick you could go weeks without seeing the sun.
- benmarten 11y agoYeah - I'm glad to be in the Valley :)
- cjrp 11y agoIs there much opportunity for tech workers there? I have family there and have considered moving, but it seems like unless you work at Cornell there isn't much going for devs?
- rm_-rf_slash 11y agoIt's a fabulous place to live but if you don't work for higher education you work in the service industry for people in higher ed. Or you work remote. I work for cornell and it's great but if I didn't work there idk how I'd find employment in town.
- rhizome 11y agoJust about everybody in SF is from somewhere else. Something like 8% of the population is under 18.
