The casual carpools in the East Bay save a lot of time going into San Francisco because of the carpool lane. Very few people use them in the reverse direction (people take the bus instead) since there is no time saving. AC Transit hates this since they need to buy more buses for the evening commute. Curious to see if the same asymmetry happens with UberCommute.

- samstave 11y agoWait until uber starts bus services. That will be great.
- aikah 11y ago> Wait until uber starts bus services. That will be great. lol, but why wouldn't they try? they'll have to set up their own bus stops though. I wonder if it would be "legal".
- smackfu 11y agoSomeone tried, it didn't go so well: http://arstechnica.com/business/2015/09/san-franciscos-luxury-bus-startup-finally-folds-selling-off-last-3-vehicles/ http://arstechnica.com/business/2015/09/san-franciscos-luxur...
- jquery 11y agoHave you EVER relied on Muni to get to work? > I wonder if it would be "legal" It would be "legal" just like their "ride sharing" service was "legal".
- eanzenberg 11y agoThe nice thing about the eastbay casual carpool (which I use every morning) is it runs on a universal first-come first-serve basis. Uberhop will not have this unless it is universally used. Uberhop may succeed at creating new carpool routes but it will fail at breaking into established ones because of added friction.
