How is it not impressive to take bits of knowledge from multiple domains (programming, instrumentation, electrical engineering, control laws, etc) and fuse them together into a single thing?
We all take from the good work of those around us. But how many people seriously do things with that work? Not many, and disdaining people who do so is not productive or, in my view, a good thing.
- 2muchcoffeeman 11y agoI think because the goal posts keep moving with technology. The number of people who have ever combined knowledge from multiple domains into a useful thing may be small relative to the general population, but it's been done. The first time it's impressive. Then others add different ideas and concepts. Then everyone can do it and it feels old. We've also seen all the news from Google about their efforts and the pain points that they are experiencing. And this guy cobbles some stuff together and just puts it on the road. Most of us are not as smart as this guy, but that's just irresponsible. That just puts a bad taste in people's mouths.

- y4mi 11y agoyes. a bug in the programm and it takes insane measures (i.e. breaking and steering hard right), salvaging that situation is impossible at higher speeds. its doubtful that a beginner would do such a thing, and even the attempt would take longer, giving the supervisor more time to interfere.
