What will this enable people to do?
- Zilioum 17y agoTo play hacked games, like on the xbox 360. Wondering if you'll have to copy the downloaded game onto a blue-ray or if its enough to copy it onto the harddrive. Not shure anyway if I'll hack mine, apparently a lot of people ran into a lot of trouble hacking their xbox (got banned from online gaming etc.)
- CrazedGeek 17y agoIgnore: Sony hasn't done anything with hacked PSPs that accessed the PlayStation Network, so that's a good sign. I just remembered that they restricted access to the Store (and possibly the whole Network). That was solved by a change in the version string, if I recall correctly.
- gvb 17y agoWhatever they wish to, within the limits of the PS3 hardware. While the PS3 supports linux, it is run under a hypervisor which restricts its access to the RSX 'Reality Synthesizer,' the graphics processing unit (GPU). The Wikipedia entry also notes that "support for the "Other OS" install option was removed by Sony in the PS3 Slim." - chrischen 17y agoAnd even if you do have a linux-compatible PS3 it's pretty useless. It's tough to find a PowerPC compatible flash player that works for the PS3 so you can't even use it for Hulu (which is blocked in the regular PS3 browser).
- Skriticos 17y agoRun Linux on their PS3 with full graphics acceleration.. No, just kidding, most will play cracked games.
- skorgu 17y agoI'd use it as a bluray player and hope Boxee gets ported and can make use of the juice to accelerate media playback. I haven't bought one mostly because of the restrictions on linux ports.
- zitterbewegung 17y agoI want to use PS3 as a compute node for shits and giggles because I don't use it anymore as a senior in computer science.
- sukuriant 17y agodon't worry, when you enter the working world, you might find a revived interest in video games on your time off :P
- zitterbewegung 17y agoMaybe, I do game with my laptop but I don't have enough $$$ or time to play PS3 games even when I have time off.
- freakwit 17y agoI'm hoping for PS2 backwards-compatibility
