Ashcroft were filed by the Free Software Foundation, the American Association of Law Libraries, the Bureau of National Affairs, and the College Art Association. RBG's majority opinion there framed the plaintiffs as "individuals and businesses whose products or services build on copyrighted works that have gone into the public domain." I wish there was some kind of group advocating for users of public domain materials, whose access to our literary heritage is so hampered by copyright.
