The studies the author cites seem to be asking the wrong question.
Rather than asking, "at what rate do poor people leave a neighborhood?", the question should be, "at what rate to poor people come to a neighborhood?".
The former question above simply does not support the conclusion that gentrification does not force poor people out. Sure, the rate at which poor people leave can fall, but if NO poor people are moving into a neighborhood, they are essentially being forced out.
