This fails to take into account that youtube owns their audience online. If a someone bought 20 seconds on a tv channel they would have to pay the TV channel. There is also massive infrastructure costs around streaming video. Youtube has no obligation to pay the content providers as the content providers are reaping massive benefits both hosting their own content and also getting found in Youtube's content discovery channels.
- anigbrowl 11y agoConversely, nobody would come to YouTube if it weren't for all the content on offer there. We all know about the costs, nobody is suggesting YouTube should hand over all revenue to the content provider.
