- Kristine1975 11y agoIt's small and fast. Atom is neither.
- free652 11y agoIt's much faster than Atom, try big log files :-)
- 746F7475 11y agoWhy wouldn't you just less that?
- azeirah 11y agoMANY people still use notepad++, it is significantly faster and mature.
- pjmlp 11y agoOf course. I want real native applications, not a browser shell.
- oneeyedpigeon 11y agoWhere do you draw the line here? Do you also refuse to use applications that use a GUI toolkit library?
- pjmlp 11y agoA full browser is not just GUI toolkit library. I draw the line in everything that uses a webview for purposes unrelated to rendering HTML.
- oneeyedpigeon 11y agoI know a full browser isn't the same as a GUI toolkit, I'm trying to understand why you're drawing a line that you're OK with some software that uses some libraries, but you're not OK with software that uses others. Not sure exactly what you mean by "a webview" (is this a specific library you're referring to?) but, as far as I know, software like atom does use a renderer to display HTML - that's the whole point.
- pjmlp 11y agoAtom is just a browser in a different package. This is where I draw the line, I only use web apps when no native options are available.
- maccard 11y agoYes - Tiny and quick. I use it for quickly scanning text, or making config file changes.
- oneeyedpigeon 11y agoIt's Windows-only; that seems to be the main drawback.
- ld00d 11y agoI stopped using it years ago when I found Sublime Text.
- 746F7475 11y agoI wasn't advocating for Atom, but ST2 is expensive for average users while Atom provides same features and is free
