I agree in principle, but I think that many people do not have the luxury (due to lack of skills/inclination, market situation, economic environment,etc), to choose an occupation that is both rewarding in its own right and it is able to pay the mortgage at the end of the month. And it's not the end of the world, it is possible to find satisfaction in other aspects of life: family, friends, hobbies...
