From where I see it, there's a whole range of the spectrum in the population - from the die hard monarchists and republicans, with the the majority of people being fairly apathetic either way. I feel that, given not much power lies with the monarchy, and we'd likely just replace it with an elected head of state, which would be just as costly - why bother?
