I think static vs dynamic and JIT vs AOT compilers are orthogonal concerns. JIT is alive and well in the JVM and a lot of effort is being put into JIT compilers for JavaScript. And you can certainly write an AOT for dynamic languages which attempts analysis to reduce the cost of dynamic features (type inference, vtable specialization and the like).
