- SwellJoe 17y agoI've read them all (I've been following your posts off-and-on since the Ghetto Indoor Pool). Your posts were a contributing factor in my decision to do this. I owe you a beer or three; hopefully we'll cross paths at some point in the not too distant future.
- tynan 17y agoAwesome... my RV is in the shop now, but would love to meet up and check out each other's RVs at some point (you know... like dogs sniffing butts) Tynan
- SwellJoe 17y agoWhat do you do when your RV is in the shop? I had a propane tank issue that seemed like it was going to require an overnight stay (it didn't, as it was just a gasket), and I was a bit flummoxed by the problem. I guess I'm maybe traveling a little heavier than you (big dog, and three very expensive guitars that I wouldn't want to leave in the truck while it's out of my hands, along with way too much other crap that it seems like I'd need to sort out, like the food in the fridge), but still...since I'm not towing a car, I guess I'd need to first rent a car, then hand over the RV, and settle in at a nearby hotel for the duration of repairs. Seems stressful, but I guess I'll cross that bridge if I come to it.
- brc 17y agoI once stayed in the parking area of a service station while awaiting repairs. Sometimes it's just a case of asking nicely.
- tynan 17y agoNormally I just buy a plane ticket somewhere where I have someone to visit, but this repair is taking a month (new engine!). So far I've stayed with a friend for a week, took a trip to Austin and visited family for a couple days, and also rented a car and am staying at a friend's house across the bridge while he's out of town. I took all of my food and laptop and left everything else... I trust the mechanics. You could also just do a sublet. I was thinking of doing that since I knew the repair would be a month. The hardest part was getting my moped back into the city. I had to stuff it in the trunk of a rental and drive with the trunk open. Tynan
- catch23 17y agoYou need to give us a video tour of the inside too, like Tynan. I guess you won't be offering your apartment for future YC interviewees on airbnb anymore :-P
- SwellJoe 17y agoI'll do a video in a few days once things are cleaned up a bit; the place got wrecked when I did the final move out of my house, and I had a lot more stuff remaining than places to put them in the RV. I need to do another purge and Goodwill trip. And, no, I reckon YC interviewees and visitors will need to find a new Mountain View home to crash at. Though the RV does sleep six (as long as they're all good friends; three if nobody is sharing a bed). There are a handful of friends who've seemed willing to try a few nights on the road with me, so I'll see how well the dog takes to more crowded living for a few days, and how livable it actually is with more people. But I don't think AirBnB accommodates a moving house very well.
