I worked on IFE systems at Panasonic for several years. The so-called "head-end" (server-side) services my team worked on were written in C++ or PHP. I saw a lot PHP going on there. The server limitations weren't as strict as you would think. The interfaces between the avionics which held actual flight data and the IFE were read-only IIRC, and otherwise fairly isolated.
