I'm sorry but in this particular case I would disagree.
If you google for "Palestinian territories", you end up with the wikipedia article which uses the wording "occupied territories." (As it says there) the occupation was declared "null and void" by UN security council; and Israel sovereignty "has not been recognized by any country."
Noting the latter (recognition by no country), it is not just a political view but (also) a reiteration of the current state of affairs, much in the same fashion as saying that "London is the capital of the United Kingdom" (also a kind of political fact.)
- yohann305 11y agoSee, it's exactly what I don't want to happen. This is your world and what you know. Now I'm gonna have to bite your bait about "UN declaring Israel Null and void". Here is the same UN council in 1949 declaring Israel a country and part of the UN. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNVuGuX1-eo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNVuGuX1-eo
- wfn 11y agoNo, wait, there is no way one can charitably interpret what I said to extract the notion of "UN declaring Israel Null and void". UN declared the occupation of those Palestinian territories under consideration as null and void. Please, that was a very cheap trick! :) Are you saying that what I said provokes one to then start on a path which leads to statements of the kind you said (that I said)? I don't think so, as long as the principle of charity is honestly implied and applied, and the better part of the people here are not complete boneheads. Have some faith! (Notably - before, we were arguing over states of affairs and beliefs on those states; there is no reason to dismiss it as some kind of politicized regress into trash, in my opinion.)
- yohann305 11y agoAnd by the way, the first thing we learn in American Universities is to not quote Wikipedia as a source. You'd know it if you went to a higher education institution.
- wfn 11y agoBut you probably know that Wikipedia is completely fine as a reference aggregator; I was just using it as a heuristic. But now you're doing the bait thing... :(
- dang 11y agoPersonal attacks, which it seems you meant that last swipe to be, are not allowed on HN. Please post civilly and substantively, or not at all.
