I won't say RPC won. We don't use Remote Procedure Calls much, we do Remote Endpoint Calls. Every endpoint still have to be considered, specified, secured, protected against DoS. None of that is automated - for example, endpoint specification systems famously didn't work. It's not that we fire random procedures on remote machines. We use protocols in the end, not procedures.
