To give context, in Poland there is strong copyright movement focused on modernizing copyright law:

It successfully lobbies common sense changes.
- walterbell 11y agoIt is so encouraging to see this European beachhead of sanity. Recent Canadian and US steps toward copyright sanity, driven by public consultation and expert debate, will be rolled back by the TPP, https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2015/08/users-ustr-dont-sign-away-our-ability-fix-orphan-works-problem https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2015/08/users-ustr-dont-sign-a... "… the Register of Copyrights issued a report about this very problem called Orphan Works and Mass Digitization … acknowledges a need to do something about the fact that "orphan works are a frustration, a liability risk, and a major cause of gridlock in the digital marketplace." … One proposal is to put limits on the legal consequences for those who do anything technically infringing, in order to make it less daunting to take a chance and use them."
- lkrubner 11y agoI sent your comment to some of my Polish friends. They will adore your description of Poland as a "European beachhead of sanity", especially given the content and character of the new government. But I think this law was put in motion by the old government. As the article says: "Extensive consultations on the new copyright law began more than three and a half years ago when Mr. Donald Tusk, then Prime Minister of Poland, promised to raise a debate on digital freedoms after street protests against the doomed Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) erupted across Poland."
- walterbell 11y agoThanks for the context. I hope the new laws can be immunized against ACTA redux, i.e. TTIP. Every victory counts, as an opportunity to collect real-world data on the benefits of good legislation.
