Oh lord that design. If you're thinking of building an app, for the love of god spend the money on a designer. It will help make you look like less of a joke.

- Enthouan 11y ago"Copyright ©2011" might be why.
- vjandrea 11y agoThis. And take away that Google Ads banner from the homepage.
- dang 11y agoIt's a fair bet that a comment that begins with "Oh lord" and ends with "a joke" is breaking the Show HN guidelines. https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html
- kdamken 11y ago"Be respectful. Anyone sharing work is making a contribution, however modest." -Perhaps I could have phrased this a bit better, but the design in its current state makes it hard to take it very seriously. "Ask questions out of curiosity. Don't cross-examine." -N/A "Instead of "you're doing it wrong", suggest alternatives. When someone is learning, help them learn more." -My suggestion was to hire a designer, which I hope they follow. However good an app is, without good design a lot of people won't take it seriously or consider it a professional product. This especially applies to non tech people, which is most people. "When something isn't good, you needn't pretend that it is. But don't be gratuitously negative." It's not like I called it a piece of crap. The app may be fine. But at the same time I'm going to call a spade a spade. The current design makes it look extremely dated.
- dang 11y ago"Oh lord" is eye-rolling in written form, and "a joke" is not far off from "crap". These are the sort of things that "be respectful" and "don't be gratuitously negative" are asking you not to do. I don't mean to pick on you personally. It's clear that you didn't mean to be rude. But casual disrespect poisons the discourse here and we all need to be careful about not doing that, especially about others' work.
- shutton 11y agoIronically when this site was built in 2011 a designer was used http://99designs.co.uk/web-design/contests/fast-growing-web-startup-requires-fun-redesign-62044 http://99designs.co.uk/web-design/contests/fast-growing-web-... Let's just say it's not aged well.
