? but that's kinda like saying 99.9% MacBooks use MacOS - Mac have created this market, and for some reason people seem obsessed giving money to the iStore for 'apps' that are either second-rate games/novalties or that give access to information that is already completely free and accessible from the built-in web browser.
I give this iPhone fad another 6-12 months before developers get thoroughly p1ssed-off with Apple and start writing the 'quality' apps for android. The iPhone app store will become an unused repository of thousands and thousands of useless bits of software...
- tcarnell 17y agoApologies - I didn't mean to sound aggressive, thanks for sharing the info !!! :-)
- mattmanser 17y agoAs long as there's money to be made, you'll still get quality apps in the app store. It will not die just because they've pissed off a few developers. There are plenty of others ready to take their place, just as capable.
- glhaynes 17y agoI think you should read this: http://kickingbear.com/blog/archives/67 http://kickingbear.com/blog/archives/67 It's a shift that we tech people need to be aware of. People are getting far more than 99c of value out of goofy little fun or even one-time-use apps. How much value is there in something that you can show to your kid, your partner, your friend, your potential love interest and make them laugh! I know much of it's not particularly appealing from a computer science / software engineering standpoint. But from a human standpoint, this is fascinating and wonderful. There's room for (somewhat) sophisticated productivity apps and the like on phones, but there is also a big, big market for stuff that's just fun! Unless human nature changes in 6-12 months (either users decide they don't want fun little novelty apps or developers decide they don't want to make the money from selling them) I think the App Store is rather unlikely to become "unused".
- colinplamondon 17y agoThe App Store has actually improved markedly in the past six months, in terms of approval time and communication from Apple. This from someone who had an app in review for 8 months. When we emailed them to get a critical patch pushed live, they expedited and put it out within a day. That's damned solid. Their Finance team also responds within a couple of hours on weekdays whenever you have a question with payments or bank account info. On the whole, I think things are going great with the App Store and getting better with astonishing regularity. The install base has also gone up significantly, so revenue for everything in visible categories has gone up due to a larger userbase alone. Apple is quickly running away with the whole ballgame.
