I like this approach, and am also relieved it's part of an overall strategy that included professional help. Depression has caused serious damage to my relationships -- it causes me to experience apathy towards those I care about, irritability, aggression and self-harm. I would throw myself into my work and constantly shifting hobbies, basically anything where I didn't have the time to think about other things. These symptoms, apparently, are fairly common in men who are experiencing depression and one of the reasons it can go undiagnosed.
