When I was in the US for most of last year for business this is the one thing that really perplexed me. In Australia the only advertisements we have are for Nurofen and popular paracetamol product Panadol. In the US, things are ramped up quite substantially, ads for blood pressure medication and erectile dysfunction. I just stopped turning on the TV in the end. These ads seemingly dominate television over there and some of the side effects for those drugs sound horrible, death is mentioned a lot.
