Good ideas, but why "require" any books at all?
- Jtsummers 11y agoThey can be very efficient for conveying information. I'm not a strong fan of videos (as some friends of mine are) as substitutes for texts on a subject. On the same side, lectures aren't enough either. They're all different aspects of the same thing: expressing information to others. If we move away from traditional texts, I like the idea of "smart" books. These would be interactive (where appropriate) in demonstrating concepts or guiding students through exercises (such as a proof or stepping through an algebra problem one step at a time). However, I think in the end (my opinion) good books are irreplaceable as sources of information, and should be aided by lectures, videos, tutoring and interactive apps.
