Here's a random idea, why doesn't the government just pay companies to employ people? (Obviously the payment should be lower than the salary, and it should be a fixed payment rather than a percentage tax break.) This way unemployed folks don't get the handout, which makes right-wing folks happy, and employers become more willing to hire minorities, which makes left-wing folks happy. Has it been tried?
