Identifying 1 candidate is a shaky argument. Even if the majority of popular candidates had an anti-Mexican (immigration) stance, you could not say for certain why they were popular without more analysis.
It's quite feasible that other criteria (taxes, job creation, etc) contribute more to a candidate's popularity.
