A friend of mine told me that politics is the art of getting uninformed people to decide what you want. With that in mind I'd say it's maybe worth having a thoughtful debate about this, probably not about whether or not this law is correct but about how to get politicians to understand the ramifications of this decision even if they have no idea what encryption actually is. I've got no idea how to do that though so I'll let you guys start...
