I expect all/most communications are and will continue to be monitored/recorded by someone (NSA, gov, fbook, goog, etc.) If this monitoring does prevent an attack from happening that's great but I don't think we have or will have a choice or even will know what is being monitored and logged or by who. I mean we are all paying to carry around tracking devices (phones) 24/7. If someone told you 10 years ago that in the near future everyone would be forced to carry a device to track their every move and that could listen in on their communications what would you have thought? The privacy ship has sailed.
