So where's the data from?

  We buy lots of cars, equip them with lots of different sensors, design and manufacture data recording systems to fit in them, organize configuration-management systems to manage and track changes to these test platforms, then drive them around collecting data, driven by the requirements that are placed upon our algorithms and systems, then analyse the data using both automated and manual methods. It is a time-consuming and capital intensive endeavour, no doubt about it.
