Programming -> Nerd -> Comics -> Batman
- Swizec 11y agoHonestly, I'm pretty sure the demographics have enough overlap for this to be an emergent behaviour out of statistical modeling with nobody building any specific logic. You can see plenty of this in, say, music recommendations where Youtube will follow a Foo Fighters song with Taylor Swift because they're both in the same "top 100 popular" category. It's easier than understanding content.
- thaumasiotes 11y agoYeah, I didn't think the decision to show Batman ads on a programming site was particularly mysterious. This looks like conflicting goals -- Amazon is trying to show ads that sell products, while the site owner is trying to set a particular tone (while still showing ads).
- lmm 11y agoAre they wrong? If I were advertising Batman I'd expect maybe 2x as many people on a programming site want to see it as on a random internet site. And the marketing budgets for these films are so massive that any opportunity like that is well worth spending on.
