It really depends. Some seminal live coding has introduced for me new programming techniques in a really impactful way. I needed the programmer to talk through and introduce the techniques as they worked slowly because I needed time for what he was saying to pass the BS filter and otherwise ring positive bells in my head.
The most recent instance of this for me was a talk on TDD that featured testing, of all things, CSS! My eyes were opened and I am now trying to test-drive my CSS with the tools/techniques described.
