Microsoft might be ambitious now, however I think they are the ones who will lose out in the future, where platforms are everything. A huge problem I see in Microsoft's approach is its ability to build a compelling platform for consumers, especially in a time of increasing skepticism in American tech. It's technology might be great, but it's cultural influence is low and may not be enough to keep it strong in the face of Chinese competitors in the future. They may end up like Sony... I hope their foray in the consumer space proves fruitful. It's a shame they have to compete with the likes of Apple and Google, along with any future Chinese tech company.
