Do you really believe that only those types of prisoners end up in solitary confinement?
- DanBC 11y ago...or that confining people in solitary makes them less dangerous?
- elipsey 11y agoNo, of course not. I said that was the purpose intended by the guards. It costs them little to use solitary confinement liberally, so they do. If someone is inconvenient or troublesome, or just pisses them off, away they go. I also think that it's well evidenced that solitary makes people go completely insane, and that the guard doesn't care very much what happens to them if they ever get out of prison. EDIT: What I'm trying to say here is that I think what we're doing is harmful, but there seems to be little incentive for empowered parties to change it.
- aqme28 11y agoIf you believe that only morally compromised people end up in prison, then you might believe this too. Belief in a Just World creates an unjust one.
- WalterBright 11y agoDangerous prisoners can be physically isolated from others with bars, but they can be left to talk to others through the bars rather than cutting them off socially.
