- pavornyoh 11y agoOh, good. They must have dropped the $15 fare to Europe then. http://money.cnn.com/2015/03/17/news/companies/ryanair-transatlantic-flights/ http://money.cnn.com/2015/03/17/news/companies/ryanair-trans...
- ceejayoz 11y agoProbably not. It's a marketing gimmick - only one or two seats on the plane goes for the $15.
- pavornyoh 11y agoYou are right. I wondered ever since that article came out how they arrived at $200 in taxes if the ticket cost $15. Unless they are changing taxes on using the bathroom and other things then maybe. But like you said, a clear gimmick...
- URSpider94 11y agoIn most cases, these taxes are per-passenger landing fees charged by various international airports/nationalities to cover the costs of Customs and terminal operations. They have no bearing on the actual ticket cost, i.e. they are the same for a $15 ticket as for a $1500 ticket.
- Symbiote 11y agoRyanair has a very effective marketing department, which seems to work on the basis that any exposure is good. Hence there are press releases and news articles about plans for standing tickets, or charging to use the toilets. I guess the theory is, if you tell people how cheap Ryanair is often enough, they won't check other airlines. Norwegian is the budget airline that's flying US-Europe, for example NY to Oslo in January for $300 return (hand luggage, no food, no seat reservation).

- CyberDildonics 11y agoNo food from NY to Oslo? It's not exactly like there are grocery stores in terminals.
- tedunangst 11y agoI've never seen a terminal that didn't have some market selling sandwiches and wraps to go.
- CyberDildonics 11y agoWould the flight be something like 14 hours though? You would have to pack 3 full meals. It looks like people don't think that's a problem.
- tedunangst 11y agoNY to Oslo is like 7 hours. At night.
- CyberDildonics 11y agoThey always fly at night, or it takes 7 hours but only at night?
- Symbiote 11y agoI'm sure they're happy to sell you a meal, if you forget to bring one yourself.
- xioxox 11y agoRyanair have recently changed their marketing strategy to try and tone down their heartless image and appear to be nicer. See, e.g., http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/may/02/ryanair-new-face-hopes-social-media-help-change-take-off http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/may/02/ryanair-new-...
- skrebbel 11y agoI had a very hard time parsing your comment until I read halfway through the article and realized you meant "from the USA to Europe". I mean, nearly all Ryanair flights are to Europe.
- pavornyoh 11y agoSorry for the error. I should have added that- USA to Europe.
- brianbreslin 11y agoInteresting thing to note, the Icelandic airlines are using Reykjavik as a hub to Europe because you can fly a smaller A320 from new york or boston to there and its much cheaper than transatlantic in bigger planes. This is why they do lots of $200 round trip fares to Europe now.
