I'm sorry I don't understand what an internal reference check is? And what trying to sub in means?

- rahimnathwani 11y agoInternal reference check: HR contacts you because a candidate worked at the same company as you before, and they want to know your opinion of them, if indeed you know them. 'Sub in': Act as a substitute for some else (in this case, another interviewer) if that person can't/won't make it.
