- intrasight 11y agoI think it will help in two respects. If they are serving the content, they will take more responsibility for the content's message and for its effect on the user experience.
- beagle3 11y agoFor once, they would not (easily) be correlating my data with other sites. Also, they would have more liability for choosing their ads so they do not include malware (a liability that Yahoo and friends have somehow been able to avoid, but shouldn't have)
- mozumder 11y agoThey could correlate with other sites with a back-end system that shares cookie data.
- beagle3 11y agoThat's exactly the thing, they can't. If you block 3rd party requests as intrasight (and I) do, there's no way for a back-end system to know that users of one website are users of another, short of using things like panopticlick or font-signature correlation (which are much less reliable than a cookie -- and personally I take action to make them useless).
- mozumder 11y ago??? I know who you are based on a cookie I drop on your browser (or just from your IP address) and I can share that information from my back-end to other sites.
- beagle3 11y agoYou can share it, of course - but, how would they correlate it with data from other websites? How can they tell that a user on your site and one on my site are one and the same? They cannot (exceptions noted above), which makes it rather useless for profiling a user
