"Korean eunuchs may have the answer"
yes, the key word in this sentence is "may". So the author discloses himself as a best guesser.
The same wording is used in the articles about longevity and beer vs. wine. "If drank in moderation, a glass a day really may keep the doctor away".
About alcohol we could read recently that the control groups in most studies had been assembled badly: parts of the never-drinkers were former alcoholics or otherwise seriously ill people. So the non-drinkers statistically died earlier. If those were removed from the not drinking control group, alcohol doesn't give an advantage. Instead, it has known bad effects (cancer risk, die of accident while drunk, etc.).
Still, the bbc article ignores this and refreshes old myths.
Pure entertainment, IMHO.
- acqq 11y agoFor the context, the wine article mentioned was also submitted by the same "d_a_robson" and written by "David Robson" who just posts the articles here, never commenting: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10457294 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10457294 Is BBC really so hungry for clicks? Is the author paid per click? Somebody may know the answer. Edit: and now the post is deleted, and we may never find it.
