Government in the US protects the "Opulent Minority" from the majority. This is by design. If you look at the persons elected to federal government positions, there is no: 1. Initiative and referendum to override Congress. 2. A way to recall elected officials 3. No popular vote for the president. Originally, there was no: 1. Universal sufferage, or for that matter a way for people to vote who did not own large amounts of real estate. 2. Direct election of Senators. So yes, it's not hard to believe that we are a government for the Opulent Minority, by the Opulent Minority, and for the Opulent Minority. I don't see how this will change without a constitutional convention, and the only way a constitutional convention is going to happen is through (violent) revolution.
