Someone I know designed a server-side REST API framework which would respond to browser requests to /foo/bar/ with auto-generated HTML documentation for /foo/bar/. Thus, if you were having an issue with a specific call, you could just copy/paste the URL into your browser and see what you were doing wrong. IIRC he also had support for making requests/responses in your browser to test, but that could just be an idea that never got implemented.
