- jerguismi 11y agoAt least in my experience the moving from founder to an employee to an employer is quite common phenomena in tech circles. There would be moles on both sides trying to sabotage and terrorize the other side.

- walshemj 11y agoI think you underestimate the costs of running a union and you will need staff to service the members needs lay officers can only go so far. OK Electronics can save some postage costs but that's it. "Members could vote on specific issues rather than vote for people to represent them." What do you mean by that and who decides what gets voted on :-) Also Unions do use a form of rev control for making decisions its called parliamentary procedure.

- nawitus 11y agoIt might be interesting to note that there's a tech workers union in Finland[1]. The collective bargaining is mostly non-existing, as people tend to get paid more than the minimum wages bargained by the union. Finland has the highest union memberships in the world too, but membership is less than average for this particular union from what I understand. (I'm not a member). 1. https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tietoalan_toimihenkil%C3%B6t https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tietoalan_toimihenkil%C3%B6t
- walshemj 11y agoTypically in that case you bargain with individual employers for your grades. M&P (managerial and professional) Union's work quite differently to the sector wide EU model
- ThrustVectoring 11y agoA professional guild - like lawyers, accountants, or actuaries - is a much better structure, IMO.
- bpicolo 11y agoPlus nerdy folk love guilds.
