For anyone wondering since I didn't see it in the article, it seems like the $76 book is "Introduction to Linear Algebra" by Gilbert Strang. Not sure about the free book though.

- DArcMattr 11y agoThe article said he used two books, one of which was free. Ordinary Differential Equations make use of linear algebra concepts, but can be self-contained. It's entirely plausible to go with Strang, and another book for this type of course.
- verytrivial 11y agoThe article has a photograph of Professor Bourget cuddling a copy of Strang. https://books.google.co.uk/books/about/Introduction_to_Linear_Algebra.html?id=M19gPgAACAAJ&source=kp_cover&hl=en https://books.google.co.uk/books/about/Introduction_to_Linea...
- fiveoak 11y agoIn the picture of the linked article he's clearly holding Strang's book - see a picture of it on Strang's site here: http://math.mit.edu/~gs/linearalgebra/ http://math.mit.edu/~gs/linearalgebra/. Also, the campus newspaper reported that the book was Strang's here: http://www.dailytitan.com/2015/10/math-textbook-drives-divide-in-department/ http://www.dailytitan.com/2015/10/math-textbook-drives-divid...
