It looks like hackers simply replaced one of the images on web site: http://www.ci.detroit.mi.us/Portals/0/images/frontpage/WelcometoDetroit.jpg http://www.ci.detroit.mi.us/Portals/0/images/frontpage/Welco... Why does it take so long to fix (or simply delete) the image? Ivan Ghandhi wrote that he notified IT department's director: http://ivan-ghandhi.livejournal.com/1202000.html http://ivan-ghandhi.livejournal.com/1202000.html It was few hours ago, but the flag is still sitting there.

    Kids with far too much free time and far too little parenting. My kids would be so grounded after even trying something like this... As for the IT folks who managed the site... Well... I think they will have a really nasty Monday tomorrow.

Plastering this all over the news isn't helping the poor sods that were in charge of that box on monday either, I figure if you're a sysadmin with some skills configuring and securing: Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 MicrosoftOfficeWebServer: 5.0_Pub Then you are almost guaranteed an interview on Tuesday morning.

That blog post makes no sense and borders on the offensive - "[she] obviously does not give a damn if her state were filled by Iranian shit" is the sort of thing I'd expect to read on a far-right website. Am I missing something here?

  "She doesn't care" -- was just one of viewpoints for this problem. jacquesm expressed another viewpoint: "people who hacked Detroit's web site are bad" (I agree with that). My focus however is more about incompetency of IT department of City of Detroit: They allowed their web site to get hacked, and on top of that they cannot fix the problem in reasonable amount of time.
