The ivy league schools already get way way more applicants of every type and flavor than they can ever admit. Some suggest that they just want more applicants regardless of who those applicants are, because these schools are competing to see who can be the most selective. Harvard, Yale, Stanford etc. compete for the "honor" of bragging rights to who is most selective. They have a strong incentive to increase their denominator.
