Ask HN: Why are there no open-source phone unlocking projects?
When a person buys a phone from a carrier in Canada, the phone comes locked to that carrier. Unlocking it is an expensive venture and one that phone companies recently had to be compelled by law to offer. There's a small kiosk in every shopping mall that will do this service for you as well, but it seems strange that a person can't simply download and run something that will unlock their phone.
