It's sad there's no "Out-Of-Band" WiFi (say 1kB/s unauthenticated WiFi), or is there such a thing in the standard already? Think SMS for WiFi, cheap and very lightweight, yet an immense benefit.
It would be easier to upgrade WiFi routers firmware than start a new network...
- Tepix 11y agoOne of the benefits of this new network is the range of the base stations. A Wifi router in a house will have a range of tens of meters. They are claiming several kilometers of range for the unlicensed ISM bands they are using.
- weddpros 11y agoSure, I understand that, yet "everyone" has wifi already, and even in the streets you receive a decent number of wifi signals... There might be a need for longer range IoT comms (in cars, etc) but for urban use, WiFi would be fine if only it had OOB. We're not using the full potential of WiFi I think
