Benefit: any follower of that hashtag (including Mozilla) can block an offensive commenter (no need for universal moderation--you can choose whatever level of freedom/inanity/bile you wish.) Classic Clay Shirky "publish then filter" dynamics, with the crowd getting to tune their own personal filter.
That approach actually seems enlightened--commenters own their own comments, readers own their filters, and if Mozilla wishes, it can curate the best of the best and amplify (say, with retweets or something like Storify).
