The part of that whole affair that's simultaneously hilarious and incredibly sad is that the guy literally couldn't have tried harder to make that fire grow. He gave it kindling doused in lighter fuel, then he gave it more kindling and wood to burn, then he literally fanned the flames. Not to say that having a fire extinguisher is a bad idea, but in that guy's case doing literally almost anything other than what he did could have saved his house.
