Ask HN: Need Advice for Technical Support Engineer
Hi Everyone
I work as Technical Support Engineer at a big multinational company. As TSE for a cloud deployment product my role is to take customer calls (not like a call center) and help them in install, upgrade , setup HA and open stack. Also whenever they get an error , I debug the code to see what caused the issue. Usually development team fixes the issues (code). I really good at my job and I can read /understand our large code base easily . Also I have been given top rating year after year but lately I started feeling may be I doing this job because it became to easy for me and there is no future in it. If I want to join a startup or Google they may not take me seriously even though I have programming experience because I work as TSE. what should I do ?
currently I know Java, JavaScript and done some Android programming.
I thought may be I need some side projects that would show case my programming experience but fail to continue after some start..
So is there any future for a TSE or should i switch to development job as soon as possible?
